GRANDMA BOB ORIGINALS

How it all began....

Back in 2020 when the world was in lockdown from the Covid virus, I had to get a little creative in how to pass my time. One can only watch so many episodes of "Little House" and "Touched by an Angel." Me and grandpa bought a 4 tier bookshelf and turned it into a Barbie house. This one (Pictured left) was our very first attempt and we thought it was all that and a bag of nickels. Grandpa concentrated his efforts on the bathroom (he is a tiler by trade) and he made the fireplace.

Then we had a little fun posting pictures on FB and IG as the dolls lived their day to day "lives."

We didn't know it then, but making doll houses was going to get a whole lot more detailed and realistic.

Well let's start here in the bathroom. After all it was a source of massive paper outages during this time. We made the tub out of a blue bunny icecream carton. Covered it in cut up pieces of peel and stick tiles that we got at the Dollar store. The windows are just printed on my color printer on some photo paper (so they are sturdier) and glued on the walls. Grandpa carved a toilet out of a styrofoam block. The waste basket is an empty tic tac container. He also created the vanity area complete with a "sink" that did have faucet and handle at one time, but they did not stay put. I crocheted the little rug.

Moving on to the kitchen, we got the "pink" barbie kitchen. Not my favorite choice but at that time I didn't know I could change it. (Wait til you see what I did!)

Barbie discovered the refrigerator was running pretty low on perishables so she decided to take a chance, don her mask and head out to the store. Sadly her kids needed to stay home and stay safe. Oh those were the days, right?

I thought it was kinda cute to have them "sanitize" the table when she got back. After all you don't want any nasty germs coming home right?

Kids did a lot of reading back in those days.

Couples did a lot of um... arguing then too....

So, this is the "prototype" shall we say. I don't consider myself a "crafty" person, but I may change my mind as I continue on with this blog. My next post will be about the second doll room I created. Can't wait to show you!

Bye ya'll!
